Frequently Asked Questions

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is an effective and meaningful way to use creativity to boost your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, no matter your age. The Canadian Art Therapy Association explains that art therapy blends the creative process with psychotherapy, helping you explore and understand yourself better. By using images, colors, and shapes, you can express thoughts and feelings that might be hard to put into words. Through making art, then processing and reflecting on your creations, art therapists support you to solve problems, become more self-aware, boost your self-esteem, manage stress, and promote more positive social interactions.

What is positive art therapy?

Positive psychology, developed by Martin Seligman and Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi, helps us tap into our natural strengths and fosters a sense of hope by giving us clear goals to aim for. Positive art therapy builds on these ideas, promoting well-being and empowerment by focusing on our ability to harness strengths, feel positive emotions, and find purpose and meaning in life. By making art together, positive art therapy can help us better understand ourselves and work through deep-rooted issues.

What is art as therapy?

Art as therapy is all about creating art by ourselves, in art classes or with friends to help us relax, unwind, and feel good. You can try painting, drawing, doodling, art journaling, fabric art, sculpting, or pottery.

But it doesn't stop there! Being creative can also mean gardening, cooking, playing music, dancing, or writing. When we learn new and fun techniques, interact with others, and stay active, it helps us build resilience and cope better with life's challenges. The best part?

You just need to enjoy these activities to reap the benefits.

I'm not artistic, is art therapy for me?

Art Therapy is not about being artistic! It's about using art materials to tap into our innermost feelings thereby enabling us to focus energy on working through those feelings. Sometimes, when words are hard to say, art making allows us to express ourselves in a way that feels safer, a key element while in therapy. Working from the comfort of your own home, we will utilize whatever art materials you have on hand, there's no need to buy anything or have art making experience! If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact me to arrange your free consultation to see if art therapy will be the right fit for you.

What is life coaching?

Life can be hard and sometimes we just need an objective supporter while we work through certain challenges. A life coach is not there to give advice or tell you what to do, it is our job to ask powerful questions to help you gain clarity, find a new perspective and discover your own answers.

You should feel valued and capable, as well as the expert of your own life within the relationship.
